IMAGINE SOMETHING COOL LIKE THIS
You can anonymously share a personal difficulty with a kind and wise someone who listens as if standing in your shoes. Then that someone writes back, anonymously. Yeah, that's right. Want a letter back? Tap the heart to begin.
ABOUT PROJECT LETTERS
PARTICIPANTS explore and anonymously share a personal difficulty. It's like this.
SO WHO ARE THE PEOPLE WHO WRITE BACK? They are a beautiful gathering of understanding and tenderness. They are psychologists, authors, or people with decades in recovery programs—all steeped in the practice of recognizing, learning from, and transforming personal difficulty. These anonymous writers hope that their letters inspire students to work with their challenges.
FEELING PORTRAITS accompany each post. They are not actual portraits of the writer or listener, rather they express a feeling aspect or transformative aspect of their difficulties. More here.
THE IDEA to write back or respond arose while I was on retreat. Participants asked questions and teachers responded from their life experiences.
THE INSPIRATION is from teens who after anonymously admitting and wrestling with their difficulty on paper often added a postscript that said, "If you can, will you write back?" This project is a yes to that question. And thanks, what a good idea.
